Placements

Lastly, add the placements that the instructor(s) will use in their course(s). These should include Link Selection and Account Navigation.

The tool will have a client_id generated by Canvas. The client_id can be found on

the Developer Keys page:

At this point the administrator or the instructor(s) will add the external tool, or “App.”  You may add the App at the root level and make it available in all courses, or you can install it at a course level. The process of doing so is largely the same.

To add an app, click Settings on the left-hand side (you can do this at the root level or in a specific course).  Click on the Apps tab, click the blue +App button, and then select Configuration Type > By Client ID.  You can now paste in the client ID (an example of which is shown above) and save.

At this point, the instructor(s) can add links within the course(s) to the external tool using the name/title that was given to the tool above (e.g. “Cambridge University Press”).

Please click Modules and identify the place you’d like to add the link.  You should then:

  1. Add an External Tool
  2. From the list of tools, select Cambridge University Press (or whatever you named above)
  3. Update the URL with a URL for your specific course.  Cambridge University Press can provide these to you.  These are also available in your Cambridge University Press course by clicking Instructor Tools > Course Set Up, and then copying the LTI 1.3. Launch URL.
  4. Click the box to Load in a New Tab
  5. Update the Name as desired.
  6. Click Add Item.
